Hi! My name is Nicole. I’m in my 30’s. Live with my husband and doggy Bella and work in the SF Bay Area.
I love to live life, laugh at it and I eat to run! I like to travel as much as I can and I do 5k’s, 10k’s and half marathons. Haven’t made it to a marathon quite yet, but am scheduled to complete Goofy at Disney World in 2015. And, I love Disney!
A little bit about how I came about running as a passion.
I used to think people who ran were CRAZY! I was a dancer. I started at the young age of 4 and then continued on through high school and majored, with eventually earning my BA, in Dance in college. After finding that my body was starting to rebel a little bit with dancing (hips not so happy, back not as flexible as it used to be…), I had to find a way to stay in shape while enjoying whatever it was I was going to do.
My husband does Xterra triathlons, so I am often a spectator at those races to cheer him on and offer him support. As I was attending these races, I started to find myself becoming interested in doing something with a finish line! Not triathlons; I can only doggy paddle and my biking skills are, nicely put, non-existent, including being a bit of a klutz and a fear of falling/crashing on bikes. But that is a whole blog post, that maybe someday I will write about…after a lot of therapy. LOL.
In 2010, I decided I wanted to start running. Slowly, I built up my mileage. I’m not going to lie, the first time I did 2 miles, I thought I was going to die. But I didn’t! So, I kept going, and before I knew it, I was doing my first 5k! Then my first 10k!
Then, on whim, I said, I can do a half marathon! Why not? Then I thought, hey, Disney does half marathons! I should do one of those. And so began my addiction to Run Disney and running in general.
Other cross-training I like to do is yoga (which I think EVERY runner should do, just to keep your muscles loose), U-Jam, Zumba, Body Pump and hiking. I think it’s important to workout other areas of your body while running.
I also like to cook…and eat! Which kind of works well, with all the running I do.
I hope my blog can provide you with some insight on how running is for someone like me, who has only been doing it for a few years and maybe inspire you to start running more.
